4 Great Hobbies for Your Health
By Dylan Pile

With so much contradictory information about what to eat and what to do out there, it can be very easy to get so overwhelmed by information that you end up doing nothing. Or worse, you end up doing something potentially permanently detrimental for your health. Still, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek to improve your health, and here we have gathered some suggestions for you. We are suggesting you take up active participation in a hobby of some sort, both to put you around people who similarly wish to be healthier, hopefully having a rub offeffect on you, and improve your health in the participation of the hobby itself by encouraging you to change your lifestyle to accommodate it.
What we mean by this is by participating in this hobby, your health will naturally improve as a consequence, making the act of becoming healthier something that feels natural and not forced. Take training for a marathon as an example, this is not something we would suggest for someone just starting out, but you can see how just by preparing for a marathon that your health would naturally improve, given proper training and recovery is implemented. As always, read more than just one article.
Here is our list of suggested hobbies, what you can expect from them, and how your health could be improved:
Running
First one on the list is a classic, low barrier to entry, hobby that can be done at all levels. From the best athletes in the world, to people just beginning their health journey, running is a pastime enjoyed by many. We suggest joining a running club or some group that schedules weekly runs. Not only will doing this encourage you to carve out a time in your week to dedicate to running, but it will also force you to spend time on yourself and with others. In order to run effectively, a person typically needs better sleep and an improved diet, so by participating in a run club, your new friends will naturally encourage and inspire you to make better choices for yourself, and ultimately, for your health and longevity.
Making Herbal Teas
This is one I believe is a bit under the radar in terms of potential health benefits. However, I want to clarify one thing first, teas are not magic, they are no replacement for good medical care. With that disclaimer out of the way, this hobby is a great one, especially for those who aren’t so interested in exercising or making friends, no offense. There exist many kinds of herbal teas, many of them providing real health benefits individually. In totality, this hobby also encourages you to drink more water and spend time slowing down. Mindfulness and intentionality are criminally underrated aspects of this hobby which will pay dividends in your health and well being down the road, not to mention the understanding of how certain herbs affect your body and how fun and beneficial that rabbit hole can be.
Mountain Biking
Mountain biking, an excellent choice if you are already a little physically active and want to take the next step. There are a plethora of resources to help anyone get into this hobby, well maintained trails (especially in California), and plenty of active groups who organize around this hobby. This one has a bit of a higher cost to entry, but is an excellent choice if you want to get more into nature. Furthermore, this can be done alone or in groups. So if you’re looking to enrich your life with friends, you can find them in this hobby, if not, well you now get to enjoy the outdoors in another way. The cardiovascular benefits from biking are also no joke; leg strength and endurance are something we can never have enough of, especially as we age.
Weightlifting
Ah yes, the health lifestyle bro hobby of choice, but not without reason. This hobby only requires a gym membership or making some homemade weights and, contrary to popular belief, weightlifting is actually a great way to fight aging. When we age, our muscles naturally atrophy, there really isn’t much we can do besides slow it. However, the more muscle and strength we start out with, before we begin to atrophy, the more we will have as we reach those advanced ages. Furthermore, this is a great way to stay socially active by hanging out in the sauna, working out with friends, or obsessing over making health burritos with other fanatics.
I hope you guys found this helpful. Maybe consider taking up one of these hobbies, or use them as inspiration to discover your next thing. Always remember, relationships are a key part to staying healthy, don’t overlook them just because their worth is difficult to quantify.
Have fun!
