Lifestyle Medicine High School Summer Program

Are you passionate about health and well-being? Explore the essentials of lifestyle medicine in this 100% live, synchronous online summer course for high school students designed by Stanford Lifestyle Medicine. Discover how nutrition, movement, stress management, social connection, gratitude, and sleep can support a flourishing life. Engage in activities, discussions, lectures, and projects to develop practical skills for healthy living and health communication. You will complete this program empowered with knowledge to make informed decisions about your lifestyle and inspire others in your community.

Empowering the Next Generation of Health Leaders

This experience introduces high school students to the seven pillars of lifestyle medicine—Movement & Exercise, Healthful Nutrition, Restorative Sleep, Stress Management, Social Engagement, Cognitive Enhancement, and Gratitude & Purpose.

Through interactive lessons, expert-led discussions, and a final capstone project, students will discover how lifestyle factors contribute to overall health and well-being. By the end of the program, students will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their own health and inspire positive change in their communities.

Eligibility

All high school students with an interest in health and well-being are invited to apply. Whether you are considering a future career in lifestyle medicine or another field—or simply want to build practical skills for living a healthier, more meaningful life—this course is designed for you.

  • Open Q&A sessions with Stanford experts sharing their diverse personal paths to wellness, and offering real-world academic and career guidance.
  • Presentation of diverse career paths in lifestyle medicine.
  • Instruction and practice in wellness coaching and real-life communication skills to encourage healthy behavior change.
  • Introduction to lifestyle medicine research, empowering students to think like a scientist.
  • “Ask a Doc” sessions with a variety of lifestyle medicine clinicians.
  • Step-by-step guidance on how to start a Teen Lifestyle Medicine school-based club or community health program.
  • Community building and networking with peers who share a passion for health and well-being.
  • Focused work time in small cohorts with a dedicated Stanford student TA providing personalized support.
  • Completion of a capstone project with tailored guidance from Stanford Lifestyle Medicine faculty and Stanford student TAs.
  • Exceptional capstone projects will be featured on the Stanford Lifestyle Medicine website.
  • Certificate of completion.

Outcomes

  • Explain the core principles of lifestyle medicine and their impact on long-term health outcomes.
  • Construct a personalized health plan incorporating lifestyle medicine practices to improve well-being.
  • Analyze clinical case studies and current research to evaluate the effects of lifestyle choices.
  • Develop science-based materials through a capstone project that promotes healthy living among peers and family members.

Structure

Sessions are 100% live and synchronous via Zoom. Our 2027 sessions will take place three (3) days per week:

Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2–4 p.m. PT.  

Students can select from the following options:

Session 1: June 7-July 1
Session 2: July 19-Aug. 12

    The application period for our 2027 program begins November 22, 2026, and ends March 1, 2027.
